Lipstick is my favorite finishing touch

by Macca: Millie & Main Stylist

Often, it doesn’t feel like I’ve finished getting dressed until my lipstick is on. There was a time when I was too afraid to wear lipstick - loved the way it looked on others but, was not brave enough to try it for myself. It wasn’t until I started working at Nordstrom as a sales associate that I became brave enough to give it a go. Standing across from the makeup counter day after day; it was time to take the plunge! I started with light shades and quickly was rocking bold red, bright pink, and dark burgundy.

If this speaks to you in any way I say go ahead and give it a try! Start with light colors and work your way to dark. Whatever the case may be, there is a color out there for you! It’s such a fun way to express yourself and is a beautiful finishing touch.

Some Helpful tips

Keep your everyday/current season lipsticks out on display. Turn them upside down for easy access to the lipstick title.

Colors you don’t wear often or are out of season should be kept in a closed bag for safe keeping. Currently, my bright pinks/corals are tucked away for when Spring/Summer arrive.

Good To Know

If you’re interested in lipstick but don’t know where to start, I’d go to a department store and try out a few colors. Stop by Nordstrom, Macy’s, or Neiman Marcus and ask a sales associate to try a light and dark color. There’s no obligation to purchase. You may find one you love and make a purchase. There’s also the option to write down the names or at least the color family and head to your nearest Target to snag the drugstore brands. Pinterest is a great place to find lipstick dupes! Type in MAC lipstick dupes and you’ll find tons of inspiration. Remember there’s no obligation to purchase at a department store.

Now to the fun stuff! MAC lipstick holds the key to my heart in the lipstick world. Mostly because the color options are endless, and the price point isn’t crazy expensive. Probably right in the middle of the spectrum at $18.50. Whether your budget is Dior or Maybelline there is quite a range in price points! And honestly, the least expensive do the trick and are just as beautiful if not more than the expensive options. Here are a few of my favorites:

MAC- Twig *darker nude

MAC- Viva Glam V *Shimmery gloss like nude

MAC- Modesty *pale nude

MAC- Rebel* deep berry/magenta

MAC- Brave Red *Classic Red

Clinique- Black Honey *sheer berry hue. Buildable for more color
